The Mission of Paine College, a church-related private institution, is to provide a liberal arts education of the highest quality that emphasizes academic excellence, ethical and spiritual values, social responsibility, and personal development to prepare men and women for positions of leadership and service in the African American community, the nation, and the world.

Over the next five years, Paine College shall build on its achievements and legacy to be regionally recognized as a premier liberal arts institution of higher education.

The campus is located one hour away from Columbia, the capital of South Carolina, and it is an easy two-hour drive from Atlanta, the capital of Georgia. Steeped in the liberal arts tradition, Paine College emphasizes academic excellence, ethical and spiritual values, social responsibility, and personal development. Since 1882, Paine College has been preparing men and women for positions of leadership who go on to serve the African American community, the nation and the world. With a liberal arts education as their foundation, prospective Paine College students can engage in programs and majors that are offered through the college’s two academic departments. Current students, faculty, and staff collaborate with local leaders in business, government, and education to strengthen the community. Along with opportunities on campus, students have opportunities to engage in community activities through student organizations. Paine College sponsors over fifty student led academic, civic, cultural, governmental, social and religious organizations as well as intramural sports and a variety of intercollegiate sports. The vision for Paine College is to be a premier liberal arts institution in the region. This vision will be accomplished through strengthened faculty capacity, student engagement and learning outcomes, technology infrastructure development, facilities enhancement and “friend” raising.
